September 18, 2008 -- After years of analyzing battlefield threats – past, present and future, engineering for a solution with the express purpose of saving lives began. The result: The Small Combat Tactical Vehicle Capsule (SCTVC), a revolutionary innovation designed to protect passengers from the deadly consequences of roadside bombs, mines, and small arms fire. This solution promises to save life and limb, and reduce the fatal burning of our soldiers. By retrofitting the current Humvee with Granite’s combat-crew compartment, the troops on the ground are given much more than just a fighting chance of surviving the threat that has killed and maimed so many to date.
The SCTVC is a rapid “deploy-apply” solution that can be rushed to the field faster than any other option available today. It is an amazingly lightweight, super-protected capsule-system that is low maintenance, easy to fit, easy to support and simple to maintain while being sufficiently robust to function in the toughest conditions on earth.
By analyzing the objective and prevalent threats in today’s conflict zone, GRANITE TACTICAL VEHICLES determined that the degree of protection offered by standard work-horse platforms against common-attack methods of blast and small-arms fire, as well as the secondary effects of fire, rollover, and collision were insufficient to engender battlefield confidence and preserve life.
GRANITE looked at each aspect of weakness and settled on a replacement cab that offers greater survivability to the crew and the vehicle, yet still maintaining the familiar proven characteristics that made the Humvee the vehicle of first choice, worldwide. It also deduced that whatever the solution was to be, it would have to be constructed with proven materials, be transportable and simple to install and maintain.
The solution was an MRAP style v-hull capsule, made from modern armoring materials to replace the existing cab in a one-for-one exchange. GRANITE’s engineers knew that any replacement cab would need to deal with the common threats, yet still maintain the characteristics and familiarity of the existing platform. The SCTVC incorporates all the features of the original Humvee with added refinements and safety features designed specifically to increase crew-survivability.
