The Provincial Interministerial Council
The Provincial Interministerial Council (PIC) is a network of senior Ontario Public Service (OPS) managers, consisting of the Chairs and Co-Chairs of the various Regional and Local Interministerial Councils across the province. There are 21 councils in total, representing over 600 OPS managers participating in Interministerial activities.
The role of the PIC is to facilitate the involvement of the OPS in the design, development and implementation of Interministerial change initiatives in Ontario. It strives towards increased communication links and collaborative efforts to widen the impact of isolated, area-specific initiatives.
The PIC provides a platform for accessing, exchanging and sharing information, lessons, insights, and experiences about the corporate change agenda. This not only creates a regional Interministerial issue resolution capability, but also puts a regional perspective on all the various restructuring initiatives. It also channels back constructive interventions into ongoing initiatives for optimum results, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of all OPS staff.
The reporting relationship of the PIC is different than that of individual ministries. There are four Deputy Sponsors, one for each region. The annual Business Plan for the Provincial Interministerial Council, as well as those from the four regions are shared with the Deputy Sponsors. The Secretary of Cabinet is the senior supporter of the Interministerial Network.
It is important to note that, the PIC is a coordinating body for the Interministerial network. The regional network supports the corporate change agenda; enhances the delivery of services in the regions; and implements cost-effective and value-added Interministerial services.
