L-3 to deliver STINGER to the CF

L-3 Communication Systems-West confirmed during CANSEC that it will deliver its Common Data Link Ground System, otherwise known as the STINGER, to the Canadian Forces.

The announcement came just days after Toronto-based L-3 Electronic Systems (L-3 ES) trumpeted a new partnership with Elbit Systems Land and C41 called Canterra Solutions to produce products and services for the Canadian Army.

The STINGER, the newest product in L-3's Line-of-Sight Ground Data Link family, “will allow CF personnel to receive ISR feeds at stand-off ranges,” said James Diefenderfer, L-3 CS-West Canadian business manager. “This award will augment the number of airborne and ground Common Data Link systems within the CF and will increase their surveillance capabilities for current and future operations.”

Added Peter Gartenburg, vice president of Canadian Operations for L-3, “We think this new opportunity further demonstrates the importance of L-3's products and services to the Department of National Defence.”
Earlier in the week, L-3 ES announced the creation of Canterra Solutions, which had a highly visible presence in the outdoor display at CANSEC. The partnership with Elbit Systems is intended to address army requirements for electronic devices, reconnaissance systems, communication devices, logistics support, in-service support and other cutting-edge technologies.

The partnership is focused on the Integrated Soldier System Program and the LAV Reconnaissance and Surveillance System upgrade.

“This strategic partnership combines our in-service support, manufacturing and project management excellence with Elbit’s battle proven products, technologies and systems engineering capabilities to satisfy the Canadian Army’s needs for effective, supportable products and services” said Richard Ackerman, L-3 Electronic System’s vice president, Business Development.
