Armatec Survivability and General Dynamics Land Systems win contract to upgrade Australian Light Armoured Vehicle

Adelaide, SA, Australia – June 3, 2010 – Armatec Survivability Corporation (ASC) and General Dynamics Land Systems - Australia (GDLS-A) have been awarded the contract to provide survivability enhancements and refurbishment to 113 Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAV). These improvements will extend the service life of the vehicles and provide increased crew protection against a wide range of threats, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), landmines, bullets, shrapnel, and explosive blast.

The enhanced-survivability kits represent world-leading, combat-proven, advanced, composite armour technology developed and produced by Armatec Survivability in Canada. The pre-modification, refurbishment, automotive upgrades, and installation of the enhanced-survivability kits will be done by GDLS-A in Adelaide SA. The combined value of the project is A$302.8 million.

The Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner, said, “These enhancements will result in our ASLAV fleet being up-armoured to provide greater protection to cater for difficult and dangerous environments such as those in Afghanistan. The upgrade will ensure the ASLAV fleet provides the highest possible combat protection and capability in the future.”

Mr. Karl Pfister, President and CEO of ASC, said, “During early 2005, Armatec and GDLS-A responded to an urgent operational requirement to prepare enhanced ASLAVs for Operation Al Muthanna. By mobilizing our combined resources, and in co-operation with the Commonwealth, we were able to rapidly deliver a high-quality product prior to deployment of ASLAV-equipped forces. Land 112 Phase 4 provides an excellent opportunity for Armatec and GDLS-A, supported by a local supply chain, to again proudly deliver quality capability to Defence.”
