From RoCK to the UAE
Ken Lewis, who until recently held the difficult post as Canada’s representative in Kandahar, was named Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates in October. His previous foreign postings include Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, Jakarta and Beijing. In Ottawa, he has held various officer positions relating to defence relations, aid policy, export finance development, and multilateral trade negotiations. Lewis succeeds Sara Hradecky.
DFAIT also announced the appointment of Bruce Levy as High Commissioner to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Previously a reporter/editor for Broadcast News before he joined the Department of External Affairs in 1986, Levy has served in Manila, Bangkok, Hanoi and Washington. He has held a range of positions in Ottawa, including foreign policy analyst within the Foreign and Defence Policy Secretariat at the Privy Council Office; from 2003 to 2004, he was on special assignment with the prime minister’s foreign policy advisor. He succeeds Angela Bogdan.
